sweet, sweet sixteen
whee...happy sweet sixteen to me! and to tracy too, my "twin" sister! i really don't feel like i'm sixteen today. still feels like i'm fifteen...oh well, i guess it does take some time for these kind of things to sink in. every year, as far back as i can remember, i have always woken up to the smell of sesame oil and misua noodles on my birthday. it's a chinese tradition that my mom insists on keeping, because noodles are supposed to symbolize long life, according to the chinese. truth is i'm not really crazy about it, even if it is quite good. nice day to celebrate my birthday, huh? maundy thursday...don't know if i should be sad or happy. in fact, on my actual birthday, there was even more reason to be, because i was born on a good friday, exactly one minute after jesus died. i came during a time all catholics were mourning, new life amidst, well, not new life. my uncle once said they were hoping that i was going to be born on april 15, easter sunday, para masaya raw, hindi malungkot.we didn't really celebrate much today, since all establishments were practically closed due to their observance of the lenten season and most of my family members were out of town. thank God tempura [one of my favorite restaurants] was open, so we had lunch there. i love the food there. my parents let me order anything i liked. yipee...one of the perks of being the birthday celebrant is they give you anything you want, since it is your birthday and it only comes once a year. well, almost everything. then, to wrap up everything, we went to church to hear mass. after that, had the stations of the cross then went home. pretty simple, i know, but could i really ask for anything more? :)
