my mind is an empty sponge

Endurance test. The name says it all, really. Oh, and btw, add mind-numbing, nakakasabaw-sa-utak and sleep-inducing to the long list of adjectives that could describe it. Science was incredibly long and absolute murder. Throughout the remainder of the day, I really did feel like an empty sponge, my mind sucked dry, rendering me incapable of paying any attention to the afternoon subjects.

UPCAT looms steadily and scarily than ever. I've taken to studying Mathematics for the past four days of our glorious, glorious albeit wet and freezing vacation. I'm terrified about this whole UP thing, since it's supposed to have a big impact on my future, yadayadayada. God, I really hope I pass. *crosses fingers*

ACET form still not filled out yet, and still no idea on the essay. *crickets chirping* As I've already said, my mind is a dry, empty sponge. Enlighten me please.

Thank you.

Back to Business

Hey. Just got back from the pleasantly freezing weather of Batangas to the sultry and humid one of the metro. It was great, being away from all the pollution and hopeslessly congested streets and retreating to a rustic "countryside" for two and a half days.

The truth is, the retreat was quite boring. Oh sure, the place was nice, the food was even satisfactory and the people were so accommodating and all, but some of the sessions were repititive and just plain sleep-inducing. I swear, if there wasn't such a thing as ethics , I would've sunk into a boredom-induced stupor in no time. There's this brother who was nice and all, but he was just so boring. He kept saying "O, baka hindi na kayo makatulog mamayang gabi kasi hindi niyo nasabi yung nararamdaman niyo." over and over again when no one else would care to share their realizations/reactions/learnings. It's not like sharing one's feelings is as incredibly vital as deciding what to do for the rest of your life. They're personal, and not everybody has to know about them.

To be honest, I don't like retreats. I just like the experience of staying in a new place and taking a rest from all the stress. And yeah, I like the short time that I get to talk properly with God, since I rush through my morning prayers in the chapel more often than not, but the truth is, after the retreat, I just got more confused about God and the Catholic religion in general. There are just so many things that confuse me.

Classes were suspended today because of the typhoon. Yay. Tomorrow though, we have to be back in school. Darn. My glorious week-long [counting the college orientation] has come to an end. Oh well. You have to go back again some time. I was just hoping tomorrow wouldn't be the day.

Haven't updated since last Sunday, since, well, nothing much has really happened this week. Same old, same old.

We had the college orientation for two days, which was a big bonus for us fourth years, since it meant two days off from regular classes. It was boring though and I kept nodding off during today's afternoon session from lack of sleep. Haha. Ang saya katabi nina Frankie, Lori, Apa at Karay, even though I was quite lethargic most of the time. They were playing the game with the folded paper thing. Apa: Ilang mm ang circumference ng adam's apple ni tots? [tama ba lori? haha] Lori: Hmmm. Mga tatlong libo lang naman. Wohoo.

I spent most of the orientation reading my book for the HRR, Wuthering Heights, by Emily Bronte. It's a good book, and I think it's better than Jane Eyre, a book written by her sister Charlotte. For one, it's a good deal less thick and for two, the story's plot is more colorful than Jane Eyre, since there's more juice on the first few chapters of Wuthering Heights. An added bonus: Wuthering Heights does not contain one single, solitary word of French, thus, I won't need the services of the ever-so-reliable online translator anymore.

UPCAT's a few weeks away and I haven't even started reviewing yet, since I'm one of the world's foremost procrastinators. Haha. Maybe I'll start reviewing tomorrow or Sunday [or Monday]. Haha. Kidding. It's our retreat on Monday, so no can do. Reco letters please! Don't care if it's late, as long as you give me one. Only if you want to, of course. Thanks. I'm actually looking forward to going to Batangas, minus the actual trip there. I detest long drives, since I have this little problem called motion sickness that usually ruin fun trips. Make me spend four hours or so in a moving vehicle, and things could get pretty messy. And I mean literally.

I hope the food at Capuchin doesn't bear a likeness to the incredibly insipid rubbish they serve at our canteen. I don't want to relive the horror of having to actually eat some of those God-awful things they call food. Well, okay, not all are bad, I can name some that are quite good even, but ketchup and corned beef in spaghetti and "pizza" that doesn't even looked like it's cooked? How incredibly low-class, cheap and cheesy. To think we go to a private school pa. Tsk, tsk. We poor students have no choice in the matter.

I had so much fun with the girls during lunch. We played concentration for a while using our surnames. Jescia's was hard to say since it was so long so we made it lizan para mas madali. After that we invented a routine for a six-person bahay kubo game and proudly called ourselves "pioneers". It still has a few rough edges, but we'll smoothen them out after a few "rehearsals". :)

***Justine Henin-Hardenne beat Kim Clijsters in the semifinals yesterday. 'Twas too bad, since Henin-Hardenne, who will be advancing to the finals against Amelie [I love her name!] Mauresmo, already has a Grand Slam title [French Open] and Clijsters doesn't have one yet.

Chololo vs Pacman || Refresher

The nation came to a standstill as everyone tuned in to Pacquiao's match with Larios. Worldwide, Filipinos watched with bated breath as their hero fought bravely with the Mexican. The judges' decision came as no surprise: Pacquiao won.

Okay, wala lang. I just wanted to practice my news reporting skills if I'm ever to become a news editor. Haha. I probably need to brush them up, though.

****

Had the refresher course in Expert Guides yesterday. God, it was so great seeing them all again, especially Donna. It was just too bad that Lyka wasn't able to make it. Tete was there! Haha. Had fun with her too. They had this makeshift bulletin board in the back and we made fun of the cliched and weird statements posted on them. Like there was this boy who said "hello, hehehe...wala lang. mabait ako". Others said, "It's better to talk than to listen", "It hurts, you know...it hurts" [ang sarap ilagay, what hurts?] "Please always stay in your assigned seat". Ay grabe. Tawa kami ng tawa.

My mock UPCAT score went up, thank goodness. :)

The fun day had a sad ending, though, when I had to say good-bye to the friends I made. I think yesterday was the last day I'd ever see them. I mean, they live so far away from QC. Oh well. Baka isang araw, ipaglapit muli kami ng tadhana. Oh God. How incredibly sappy and schmaltzy is that?
