espionage escapades

summer usually means one thing for me: taking out my nancy drew books and rereading them. somehow, i don't get tired of reading about the tight spots nancy manages to get herself and bess and george in, and her ingenious ways of getting them out. i started out with the nancy drew notebooks and moved up to the hardbound ones then to the paperback ones again [the ones with the flower prints on them]. my dad saw how much i liked them and bought me a collection of the hardbound ones [that was when books were still cheap]. haha. call me a sucker for mysteries. i read agatha christie and jessica fletcher too, and even watched the movies that featured her, but i don't read it as much as nancy drew.

tete, maki [somosot] and i were huge fans of nancy drew when we were still in the third or fourth grade. we took such a fancy for her escapades that we even tried imitating her and went on "stakeouts". we would look at people passing by and whisper about whether they looked suspicious or not. i remember maki saying once, "don't look now, but there's a really mysterious man in black standing over there." tete and i turned immediately and said, "where?" of course, by that time, the man was gone.

when we weren't doing that, tete and i would try to solve our own little mystery: finding out who nappi was. nappi was actually a signature we noticed on the drawings on the front covers of the books. we would brainstorm and try to come up with answers. who was nappi anyway? was there a mystery behind the signature? was he/she actually a captive trying to convey a message? we later found out that there was no mystery at all; it was just the artist's signature. haha, pardon our childhood innocence.

when we went camping in the fourth grade, we even made this checklist that included items we'd need for investigations. we were all hyped up and excited to go sneaking around in the dark, armed with our trusty flashlights to knock out any unsuspecting prowler that came our way, but sadly, the rain poured steadily that night and we were unable to do so.

haha, it was so fun pretending to be nancy drew, even if we didn't come close to apprehending any villains.

****

errr. great. i just saw on the news that mtrcb has finally rated the da vinci code. just when i was feeling relieved that they were allowing it to be shown here, they announced that it was rated R. isn't that just dandy? absolutely perfect. i've been waiting for that movie to be shown ever since i saw the posters in the cinemas, and now they're not allowing the underaged to watch.

what a total rip-off. oh well. i guess there's always pirated dvds. [see, because of their rating, tataas ang rate ng bibili ng pirated. tapos sila pa nagsasabi na avoid piracy? how can we not? should we wait until it shows in hbo? tsss]

i think they're making a mountain out of a molehill about this whole da vinci code thing. it's just fiction [meaning: not real, made-up]. a woman on the news said, "two hours of watching a movie cannot change your faith." i mean, okay, it does make some "blasphemous" allegations, but what's so wrong about exploring your faith a little further? it might make some things clear. honestly, there really are some teachings that i can't understand.

ay. religion's too messy.
